If you asked me what words have forever changed my life (besides the prayer of salvation), my answer would be a simple one: thank you. The words changed my life in a very real way in 2007..
I flipped through Like Silver Refined by Kay Arthur one day when I came to a part where she wrote about giving thanks to God regardless of our circumstances. Just a few short days later, I ended up on bed rest due to health problems. I don't remember the exact moment but at some point, I began saying 'thank you'.
At first I said them through clenched teeth because I was angry. I was sick and I was tired of it. Sometimes I said the words again and again with tears in my eyes. I didn't feel thankful. I didn't see anything good in what was happening.
But bit by bit, day by day, the words 'thank you' began to change my life. I realized that when I said thank you for my circumstances, I was affirming that God did indeed have a plan and that He was working to accomplish something for His glory through my circumstances.
The words 'thank you' didn't change the pain. The words didn't heal me. But they did change me. Instead of looking at circumstances as bleak, I began to feel hopeful. I was hopeful because I had remembered that God was still in control...all because of two little words.
